My MO for boar brushes is to soak the brush in a bowl of soapy water overnight (ordinary liquid soap is fine). The next morning just rinse it out and create some lather with a shaving soap - let it sit with the lather for about 15 to 20 minutes, then rinse it out and let it dry. After that you'll notice the brush does not have any odor and becomes softer than before. I have used this brush primarily to shave my head. The stiff bristles allows for a great exfoliating effect - the same would be true if you are planning to use it to shave your arms or legs.
In time all boar brushes get softer with use - this one is very easy to use with a hard soap puck. Just place the puck in the center of the bowl or scuttle and after soaking the brush in hot water for about 5 minutes, just whisk away to generate oodles of lather. For the price, you cannot find a better boar shaving brush.

Not too impressed. It was cheap, I realise, but the bristles are very stiff. If I gad sensitive skin I might think I was using a scrubbing brush!
