OUR ROADMAP TO A MORE SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
BUILDING A BETTER FUTURE,
ONE BRUSH AT A TIME
For nearly 250 years, Kent Brushes have believed that quality and longevity go hand in hand with responsibility.
Since 1777, our philosophy has remained remarkably consistent: create beautifully made brushes using quality materials, skilled craftsmanship and a commitment to doing things properly.
Today, we're building on that heritage by reducing our environmental impact, investing in more efficient manufacturing and making thoughtful decisions about the materials we use. We know sustainability is an ongoing journey, and we're committed to being transparent about both our progress and the challenges ahead.
Our legacy is one of strength and perseverance, fuelled by the unwavering support of our employees, valued customers, and trusted suppliers, and we are committed to making long-term improvements and investments to actively reduce our environmental impact.
OUR VISION
Our goal is to achieve net zero across our business and value chain by 2039/40, a decade ahead of the UK's national target.
Rather than relying on broad promises, we're focused on measurable improvements across every part of our business, from the energy that powers our factory to the materials we choose, the way we design our products and the partnerships we build with brands and suppliers.
Sustainability isn't a separate initiative at Kent. It's an active part of every decision we make.
OUR FOUR PILLARS
ENERGY & CLIMATE
Reducing the environmental impact of our operations starts with understanding where our energy comes from and how we use it.
In recent years, we've invested significantly in renewable energy and energy monitoring to help reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and improve efficiency across our manufacturing site.
TODAY:
• Our factory roof is home to a 63.64 kWp solar installation, generating thousands of kilowatt hours of renewable electricity every year.
• Since June 2025, 100% of the electricity purchased for our main factory has been backed by Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO), verified by the Carbon Trust.
• In 2026, our solar panels supplied more than half of our site's recorded electricity demand during the first half of the year.
• We're now exploring battery storage to make even greater use of the renewable electricity we generate ourselves.
Our next milestone is to reduce our overall energy intensity by 20% by the end of 2027, while continuing to increase the proportion of energy generated on-site.
PREMIUM MATERIALS
Every Kent brush begins with carefully chosen materials. We continually review our sourcing to ensure we're making responsible choices without compromising the quality, performance or durability our customers expect.
OUR PRIORITIES INCLUDE:
• Increasing the proportion of FSC-certified timber used across our collections.
• Reducing unnecessary material use.
• Introducing more recycled and recyclable packaging.
• Exploring high-quality alternatives where they offer genuine environmental benefit.
• Working closely with suppliers to improve transparency throughout our supply chain.
By 2027, our goal is for at least 90% of relevant timber to come from FSC-certified or equivalent responsibly managed sources.
LESS WASTE
Durability has always been central to Kent Brushes. Alongside designing products with longevity in mind, we're continuing to reduce waste across our operations by:
• Minimising unnecessary packaging.
• Increasing the use of recyclable and recycled materials.
• Finding new uses for manufacturing by-products, including exploring circular solutions for wood waste.
• Investigating future product recovery and recycling initiatives.
By the end of 2027, we aim for 95% of our packaging by weight to be recyclable, made from recycled content or removed altogether.
PEOPLE & HERITAGE
Sustainability isn't only about the environment. It's also about protecting skills, supporting communities and creating products responsibly.
As one of Britain's oldest manufacturers, we're proud to continue making many of our brushes in the UK, investing in skilled employment and apprenticeships.
Our sustainability strategy is closely linked to the long-term future of British manufacturing. By investing in our factory, improving efficiency and creating products that are made to last, we hope to ensure Kent Brushes continues to thrive for generations to come.
