David Butterworth (11.01.1936 – 20.02.2024)
This is the story of a brush that lasted a lifetime. David Butterworth’s treasured Kent MS23 hairbrush was a part of his daily routine for over 70 years. A trusted companion, it travelled alongside him throughout his career in the British Military – travelling to Egypt, Libya, Alaska, Africa, Europe, and all over Canada, including his favourite portaging trips throughout the Muskoka Highlands with his brothers and friends.
A father to five children, this hairbrush is a treasured heirloom and will continue to serve the family. More than just a brush, it serves as a tangible connection to their father and the celebration of his life.
“It's pretty special to hold something with that much history! His stories will be told to future generations. Thank you for making quality products that last.”
(Linda Butterworth, Dave’s daughter-in-law.)

The most sustainable act we can do is to use, care and repair the products we already have, and this brush is a testament to exactly that. The MS23 is a classic for a reason, and such joy can be found in reliability and familiarity. The balance of form, function, elegance and economy. David found that in this brush, and we’re grateful to have the opportunity to share his story.

“Dave was a true gentleman with a great sense of humour and valued family above all. He also made the Flat Cap iconic to us all. It was his signature hat!”
(Linda Butterworth).
